The Difference Between Braces And Aligners

What Is The Difference Between Braces and Aligners

There are different methods and dental appliances that can be used to correct malpositioned teeth and jaws; braces and aligners are the most popular.  Talking with an invisalign loveland dentist can help you choose what is best for you.

Braces

Braces have been used in the orthodontic treatments for a long time, to correct various dental problems: crowded teeth, teeth gaps, dental protrusion, malocclusion etc.

There are fixed or mobile braces. Fixed appliances must be worn permanently during the treatment and can only be removed by the orthodontist. They are less frequently used in children. Mobile braces can be removed from the oral cavity by the patients themselves; however, in order for the treatment to take effect, they should not be taken out frequently, or for too long.

Aligners

Aligners are a popular alternative to classic braces. Transparent and almost invisible, aligners use clear plastic trays customized to perfectly fit the teeth of the patient. Each set of aligners is worn for about 2 weeks, then the patient moves to the next set. As the treatment progresses, the teeth will migrate – little by little, week after week, gradually moving to the desired position.

Even if they have an incontestable aesthetic advantage, aligners are not efficient for any clinical situation. They are efficient for correcting crowded teeth, if the problem is not very severe. The orthodontist will inform you if wearing aligners is an option for you.
