How Do Braces Work?

Braces OptionsBraces come in various types, but they all work by the same principle: they are mechanical devices installed on the patient’s teeth that exert continuous pressure on the teeth in order to push them in the desired direction, thus achieving a straighter line of teeth. After the installation, the braces start doing their job and moving the teeth, which also means that as the teeth move, the pressure applied by the braces in a certain position will no longer be sufficient, requiring the patient to pay regular visits to the orthodontist, who will adjust the braces in a way that allows for the process to continue.

The duration of the process of dental realignment with the help of braces depends on the initial position of the teeth and the amount of movement desired. In some cases, if the teeth are too tightly positioned in the line, it might be necessary to extract teeth, even if they are healthy, to make room for the remaining teeth to move to their optimal position.

In the past, dental realignment with braces is a procedure performed only on kids, but the modern braces offered by invisalign Lakewood dentists used today can be efficiently used to align adult teeth as well.
