Wearing braces is not always easy and it requires some attention when it comes to the foods consumed. Some foods can cause serious damage to the wires and brackets that make up braces and they can also hurt the sensitive teeth and gums of the wearer of the braces – here are some of the foods that you should avoid for the period when your braces are on:

  • Chewy and sticky foods – foods that are sticky and require lots of chewing can get stuck between the braces and the teeth that they are attached to and they can also deform the braces. The list of these foods is long and includes hard bagels, gummy and other types of candy, chewing gums and caramel;
  • Sugary foods – the foods and beverages that contain lots of sugar can cause cavities to appear on stressed tooth, so they are best avoided;
  • Hard foods – foods that need you to bite hard into them, such as pretzels and nuts are also best avoided while your teeth are braced;
