Protecting Your Teeth During the Holidays – Are Thanksgiving Foods Brace-Friendly?

Happy Thanksgiving Foods To Eat Protect Teeth

Holidays like Thanksgiving can be ripe with foods that will lead you to the dentist’s office as soon as the celebrations are over. Depending on what you prepare, many of the foods and sweets at the Thanksgiving table are not very brace-friendly, so if you’re wearing braces, you’ll need to be quite careful about what you eat.

Still, you’ll find that you can often enjoy even your favorite Thanksgiving foods as long as you take a few precautions:

  • For turkey, the main Thanksgiving delicacy, you don’t need too many things to look out for. Turkey is a great source of protein and it’s relatively safe, aside from the fact that its texture sometimes makes it stuck between your teeth. As long as you eat it slowly, it should be more than fine.
  • Sweet potatoes are great for your gums due to their high vitamin A and C content. However, be sure to avoid candied recipes, as their sugar content is not very brace-friendly.
  • Finally, chopped veggies and dishes like macaroni and cheese can also be quite brace-friendly, although you might want to make sure you floss after your meal. Even pumpkin pie can be a good choice, since its content of vitamin C and calcium makes it far better than any other dessert at the Thanksgiving table.  Following these do’s will make your trip to the Loveland orthodontics office a pleasant one.
