Spring Clean-Up for Your Mouth

happy young woman check up with orthodontist office spring cleaning

Spring is not only a time for cleaning your home and your landscape – it is also a time for a thorough clean-up in your mouth. Here are some tips:

  • Replace your toothbrush – toothbrushes should be replaced every three months. If you have been using yours for longer, toss it and get a new one;
  • Review your dental cleaning routine – ideally, you should brush your teeth twice a day, floss them once, preferably in the evening and you should also use a mouthwash. If your current dental cleaning routine does not include all these steps, start including the missing operation;
  • Get a dental check-up – schedule a visit to your dentist, especially if your last visit was more than half a year ago. If you can, schedule professional cleaning, too – it is the best way to ensure that all the plaque and tartar is removed from your teeth;
  • Review your diet – your spring mouth detox should include a review of your diet as well. If your diet includes too much sugar, but very little fiber, try to include at least one serving of vegetables and fruits. Try to consume fruits and vegetables in raw form to provide exercise for your jaws and to ensure adequate saliva production.
